Spalding Regional Medical Center, Atlanta Medical Center, North Fulton Regional Medical Center, South Fulton Medical Center, and Sylvan Grove Hospital are working with the American Heart Association to present the 11
th annual Woman to Woman Conference on Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center, 285 Andrew Young International Boulevard NW in Atlanta.
This year, a sister conference will be held at Luella High School, 603 Walker Drive in Locust Grove, to better serve the needs of women in the south Metro Atlanta area.
Our hospitals will be working with the American Heart Association to help raise awareness of the leading cause of death among women – heart disease. The purpose of this conference is to educate women on health, aging and other issues related to living a rich, fulfilling life. Women will learn how to make lifestyle changes that will help them be more heart healthy.
John Quinn, chief executive officer of Spalding Regional Medical Center, said “Most women name breast cancer as their greatest health threat, but statistics show that heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases claim more women’s lives each year than the next seven causes of death combined. Education is a crucial component in the fight against heart disease. That’s why Tenet Georgia has joined with the American Heart Association and Woman to Woman conference. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of women.”
The 2006 Woman to Woman conference will include a number of education sessions. Some of the physicians who will be participating in the event include:
-
Courtney Shelton, M.D., internal medicine, Atlanta Medical Center, “Heart Truth”
-
Alise Jones-Bailey, M.D., obstetrics and gynecology, North Fulton Regional Hospital, “Anti-Aging, Wellness and Hormone Replacement Therapy”
-
Donovan Christie, M.D., internal medicine, South Fulton Medical Center, “Eating Right on the Run” and “How Healthy Is Your Lifestyle?”
Christine Finck, associate professor of pediatrics and surgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, a Tenet Pennsylvania facility, will present “Childhood Obesity: Raising Heart-Healthy Kids.”
The Woman to Woman event also will offer free preventive screenings including blood pressure checks, blood glucose and cholesterol tests, carotid bruits and body mass index.
There is no charge to attend this event, but a $10 donation to the American Heart Association is suggested. Registration is required, and space is limited. For more information, please call 1-888-TENET-4U.
