SRMC Supports Local Troops

GRIFFIN, GA – Tuesday, March 23, 2010 -   Spalding Regional Medical Center will be collecting cell phones in the Iris Café from April 5th to April 23rd.  These cell phones will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers, an organization that collects the phones and is able to turn them into AT&T phone cards.  Each card includes one hour of talk time and are distributed to soldiers here and abroad who are unable to keep in contact with their families.

All of the cell phones collected through the hospital’s efforts will produce phone cards designated for soldiers from the city of Griffin or Spalding County.  We are collecting phones in any condition; chargers and headsets may be donated, but are not necessary.

Dennis Bryant, Director of Food and Nutrition Services for Spalding Regional Medical Center is spearheading the efforts; this is his third year supporting this great organization.  He had the idea originally while a cook in his kitchen was away serving an eleven month tour.  “While away from home a soldier may be getting clothed, fed and taken care of, but he also has a family back home to support.  This is just one way to lessen the burden and keep the family unit intact.”

Please join us in making this the biggest and best year of donations.  For more information on the program, visit www.cellphoneforsoldiers.com.
